DUST EXTRACTION AND VENTILATION FOR D&T WORKSHOP AT COLLEGE
The existing dust extraction systems in D&T workshop had low flow and poor design, and were very noisy as internally located, making teaching nearly impossible when running. In addition, the units were not ATEX rated which was necessary due to the fine wood dust being handled.
Likewise, the existing heating system was very noisy, it also provided no fresh air, it was just being internally recirculated.
Lastly, the varying forms of fume extraction were all very noisy when running.
The combination of all these elements caused a very disruptive teaching environment.
Exeon supplied and installed a large external Rhino type dust extraction system, providing extraction outside the room. The unit was designed with a variable speed control with dampers on each piece of kit, providing additional energy savings. The external location of the Extractor took the source of a lot of the noise away from the room.
Exeon designed a Ventilation system providing a variable amount of fresh air and recirculated air depending on external temperatures, and provided 3 air changes throughout – a massive difference to previously. The system was fully silenced and the noise level was not discernible.
All Fume Extraction units were replaced with quieter operating systems also.
The result was startling. The noise reduction across the workshop, with all units running, was tenfold, and allowed teachers to teach even when every piece of machinery was running.
