CYCLONE AFTER-FILTER REPLACEMENT
Issue
Exeon were asked to provide a quotation to replace an Existing cyclone after-filter, known as the ‘Cyclofilter’.
The Cyclofilter was in very poor condition, and rusted right through in place, due to the quantity of moisture in the air, and was becoming at risk of being unstable. It also was aesthetically very unsightly.
There was 3 Product lines/cyclones separately discharging into the Cyclofilter, and each line had a complicated arrangement of two fans, the result was significantly inefficient and costly to run.
Solution
Initial quotes were significantly over £250,000, and it looked as if this project would go on hold due to budgetary constraints. However this was because the existing Extraction system was significantly over-specified. Exeon carried out free dust analysis and verified that a like-for-like self-cleaning type filter was unnecessary.
Exeon therefore instead installed a dust extraction system with high dust-loading capacity but with disposable type elements. There was significant energy saving and compressed air savings for this option, and filter change was only required annually.
The project was therefore less than half the value of initial estimates, and was able to be completed within a single shutdown week.
Exeon also replaced the two existing fans on each line with a single fan, and were able to show energy savings of over £25,000 p/a.
