ODOUR & EMISSION CONTROL – STYRENE FUMES FROM GRP PRODUCTION
Issue
Exeon were asked to provide a solution for a GRP production site.
The existing Extraction system did not provide the necessary relief internally from GRP fumes, and the Supply air system was designed with a significantly higher airflow than the extract, causing positive pressure on the building and dispelling of fumes.
There was therefore both an internal H&S issue due to poor air quality, and external environmental issue from the positive pressure.
Solution
Exeon supplied and installed a Hi-Flo adsorber to provide a significantly improved flow of extract air.
A new duct run was installed to facilitate this larger flow, a total of 5 air changes was provided to the building. Extract was provided at low level with local filters to prevent ingress of GRP dust.
Exeon utilised the Existing supply air system to improve the distribution of air over the operators, to further improve the air quality.
The result was that the factory was able to be put under slight negative pressure, and the internal air quality was improved, there was an 80% reduction in airborne contaminant.
