Exeon were asked to replace the existing extraction fan serving the buffer tanks at the Biogen AD plant in Basingstoke.
The current fan, which extracts odours from three buffer tanks, was no longer operating effectively and had reached the end of its service life.
In addition, redundant ductwork connected to a nearby process area had been left open, causing significant pressure loss and reducing the performance of the extraction system.
Exeon proposed the supply and installation of a new centrifugal extraction fan designed to handle a combined airflow of 3,000m³/hr, providing 1,000m³/hr extraction from each of the three buffer tanks.
The fan location was repositioned to the side of the pedestrian walkway to improve access and safety. Local ductwork modifications were carried out using galvanised spiral ducting, and redundant branches were removed and capped to eliminate pressure losses and restore system efficiency.
The upgraded system ensures reliable odour extraction from the buffer tanks and improved overall system performance.
