Odour Abatement for Waste Transfer Plant
Issue
Exeon were approached to provide an Odour Controlled Ventilation system for the new build Geminor waste transfer station in Hull where the Environment Agency (EA) have requested a ventilation system handling 104,000m3/hr, which was three air changes on the building.
Extraction odour Threshold was required to be controlled within 600ou/m3 (odour units per m3).
Dust filtration was critical for discharge thresholds (5mg/m3) and protecting the carbon.
It was vital that the plant could be run continuously without interruption, and so no shutdowns were allowed for service, although the system could be run on low speed during nights / weekends. Also, if the Odour control plant was to shut down completely, the EA required notification.
Solution
Exeon supplied and installed an Odour & abatement system to control odour to within 600ou/m3. The system handled 104,000m3/hr and was installed in a 7-month window.
Dust filtration was installed bringing the Discharge under 5mg/m3 as per the EA guidelines.
Exeon proposed the twin-flow Extraction system arrangement with each Extract fan handling 50% of the total flow, and isolatable dust and odour filter chambers. This allows the plant to be serviced during nights and weekends without complete system shutdown and subsequent EA notification.
