Odour & Dust Abatement for Waste Transfer Plant
Issue
Exeon were asked to assist with a refurbishment project in Four Ashes, Wolverhampton, where they were stripping out an existing building for re-use as a MRF and recycling centre. As a result of the odorous process inside, the EA required odour and dust control on the ventilation system to the building.
Exeon also had strict thresholds on noise to comply with regulations.
The odour control limit on the odour abatement system was 2000 odour units per m3.
Solution
Exeon supplied and installed a odour and dust controlled ventilation system. The system was fitted with dust filters to ensure that the discharge threshold of 5mg/m3 was met and also the carbon filter beds were kept clean. the system included carbon filter beds to ensure that the odour was treated to a level inside the discharge threshold.
Exeon’s system included acoustic treatment on the outlet of the fan to ensure that noise discharge at stack was kept within the regulations.
Exeon completed the project within a 5 month period from order to commission and successfully met the noise and odour discharge limits.
