An independent LEV survey at this Food additives plant had been carried out which condemned the existing dust extract system, and the filter was insufficient and being bypassed. Duct velocities were too low causing drop-out of dust, and capture was insufficient causing employee exposure to airborne dust. Action was urgently required to address these issues.
Exeon were asked to provide a Dust Control solution which did not impact production efficiency at all, as speed of production was critical.
The location of the plant was in the centre of the factory, with a long way for ducting to outside, but the application was ST 1 rated dusts (explosive) so the Dust Extract system had to be ATEX rated to suit.
Exeon installed a backdraft type Extract hood system for the additives area, to allow the tipping of sacks, with strip curtain to increase the flexibility and clean-ability of the system but retain critical flow rates.
The area around the additives area is now much cleaner and requires only weekly cleaning instead of daily clean.
A RHINO Dust extraction system was installed, and with a Flameless Vent to allow the unit to be positioned locally to the process with minimal ducting requirements.
